Your Chat Makes Customers Log In Before They Can Ask Anything

Someone has a quick question, clicks your chat, and gets asked to sign in. Most of them leave. It's usually one setting — and your chat can probably answer for you, too.

DIY ItPrompt

Someone's about to buy. They've got one quick question — will it fit, when will it ship — so they click your chat. And it asks them to sign in first.

Most people won't. They close it and go somewhere that'll just answer them.

If that's your chat, you didn't break anything. It's usually one setting, switched on when the chat was installed, often to keep spam out. People who want to sign in already can — that's what the account icon in the top corner of your store is for. Your chat doesn't need to make them.

The shape of it

Two changes make your chat feel like someone who knows your shop: switch off the sign-in, and switch on its AI helper so it answers people by itself, any hour. If your store's on Shopify, your chat is most likely Shopify Inbox, and it has both.

The AI helper answers from your shipping, returns and FAQ pages. If those are thin, its answers will be too — so the prompt has you test it with real questions and fixes what it gets wrong.

I run a small online shop: [yourstore.com]

Keep it plain — no jargon, and if a techy word is unavoidable, explain it.

1. Open my website and work out what my store runs on and which chat it uses. Tell me what you found.
2. Using the chat provider's current help pages, walk me through one step at a time:
   - switching off anything that makes customers sign in or give their email before they can chat
   - switching on its AI helper so it answers customers by itself — and if my store can't use it yet, tell me how to check
   - writing a short, friendly greeting in my brand's voice
Wait for me to say "done" before the next step.
3. Read my shipping, returns and FAQ pages, then give me 10 questions my customers are likely to ask. I'll ask them in my chat and paste back what it said.
4. Tell me which answers were wrong, vague or missing, and write the fix for my website pages, ready to paste.

Never ask for my passwords. If my screen doesn't match what you said, ask what I see — don't guess.

Copies only the prompt text above.

Where it goes sideways

Switching it on and walking away. The AI helper sounds sure of itself even when your pages are vague, so it'll happily give a customer the wrong shipping time. Test it with real questions before you trust it, and again whenever your policies change.

Rather your chat just answered everything properly — no setup, no testing, no babysitting? That's AI-CAN. We set it up and run it for you.
