Does Google Actually Know What You Sell?
Your Google headline probably says 'Home', and your product facts live in your head. Both are quick to fix, and your words stay yours.
When your store shows up in Google, two bits of text do the selling: the headline (the big blue words) and the short line underneath. When someone asks ChatGPT for a recommendation, it looks for plain facts it can pass on: what it's made of, how big, how long it lasts, how fast it ships.
Most store platforms fill in the Google bits automatically, so they often just say "Home". And the facts usually live in your head, not on the page. Neither is you doing it wrong — they're just the bits nobody tells you about.
"Home" tells nobody anything. "Hand-poured soy candles, made in Tauranga" does. "Made with love" is why your customers buy from you. "220g, NZ soy wax, 45-hour burn" is what an AI can repeat. You want both.
The shape of it
Two jobs, one prompt. A proper headline and short line for each main page — your store has a box for both on every page, usually called "search engine listing" or "SEO". And a short list of real facts under your best-sellers' descriptions. Your words and your story stay exactly as they are.

I run a small online shop: [yourstore.com]
Keep it plain — no jargon, and if a techy word is unavoidable, explain it.
1. Open my website and read my home page, main collections and best-selling products. Tell me in three lines what I sell, who it's for, where I'm based and how my brand sounds, so I can correct anything.
2. Write a Google headline and the short line underneath for each of those pages:
- every headline different, under 60 characters, says what the page is, with my store name at the end if it fits
- every short line under 155 characters, one real sentence, in my brand's voice
- no two the same, and don't cram in search words
Give it to me as a table: page | headline | short line.
3. For each best-selling product, keep my description exactly as it is. Write a short bullet list to go underneath with the facts a shopper would want — size, materials, how long it lasts, care, shipping time. Only use facts from my site. If one's missing, leave a [BRACKET] for me to fill in.
4. Work out what my store runs on and tell me where to paste each of these, one step at a time. Warn me not to change the page's web address while I'm in there.
If you can't open my site, say so and I'll paste the words in. Don't guess, and don't make up facts.
Copies only the prompt text above.
Where it goes sideways
Letting the AI invent facts. If it writes "lasts 60 hours" and you've never timed it, that's now a promise on your page. Check every number before it goes on your site.
